Season Debut: Is Mama Spying on Me?

Dearest Journal, George (Mr Fitzgerald) and I have decided to continue our secret and chance meetings in the park where my sister and I have our constitutionals. Chance would have it that my sister is very aware of what we are doing as she approves of my rebellion but has advised that we wait until I turn 17 or 18 to have a season or two completed.

I think this may be a bad idea as we both know what Mama is like; now that Mama knows we are attracted to each other, she will stop at nothing to keep us apart. Mama believes in nothing more than climbing the social ladder and bettering the family at any cost, which includes sacrificing our happiness. I do not care for climbing as I would just like a husband to love me as I love him. I hope our class difference does not come between us before our love is allowed to blossom.

[The next day] I was meant to meet George yesterday. Mama would not let me go anywhere yesterday without her. I may be a bit paranoid; I could have sworn that I had seen Mama in town when chatting to George in his mother's shop whilst making It look like I was picking out a dress material. We shall see in due course what is happening with Mama and Papa. I may have to start looking into making a disaster plan in case the worst comes to play.
