Season Debut: Preparations begin

My Dearest Journal, Mama has mentioned that she expects the ball to happen soon. I must begin planning as I need a new dress fitting, even though we have not received any notifications or invites. My sister Mary has suggested my dress be modest but show-stopping. I do not want to give the impression that I am too free-spirited. I worry that I may not find a suitable suitor. I do not want to end up in a loveless marriage. I pray that this is not a sign of things to come.

On a happier note, the chef prepared a delicious pheasant pie for supper tonight. It was my first time trying this exquisite dish, and I plan to ask the chef for the recipe to add to my collection. I have decided to start collecting recipes for the foods I enjoy. I can have favourites of mine come with me when I leave Mama and Papa. I will take my charcoal and paper to the kitchen and ask the chef to share the ingredients and instructions to give to my new chef. This will also give me an excuse to practice my penmanship in the evenings before bed as I create recipe cards.
